GPL

The GNU General Public License (GPL) [1] (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html)

The GPL is the world's main obstacle to all computer software being proprietary - owned by some-one/thing - a chargeable product.

21st century programmer technocrats stand to gain most from removing this Free alternative - by increasing the value of their work output (a fair individual objective) - especially within the 'Open Source' millieu. Open Source is an ally of Microsoft(TM) in this regard.

Consequently realignment is required - acknowledging the start made by GNU and signposted by LINUX(TM) kernel licensing - with the General Public Interest firmly in mind. Distribution and services are the key earning point from (Free and) open software. There is no point repeating the mistake of BSD, and commercialising the open code itself. Otherwise BSD would have held its influence.

The GNU GPL is the proven channel - combined with a free and open Internet - carrying Linux kernel distribution to success. This makes Gnu/Linux the platform of the future - a fully shared community contribution. Proprietary software - and its distribution channels - are different and unacceptable.

Ask Linus Torvalds: the goal has always been a cost-Free not-Unix. Let us get on with it.
